How It’s Done
Ask
the group to stand on the beam in alphabetical order according to the
first letters of their last names. All should be facing in the same
direction, with their shoulders touching. Then, give them their task:
to rearrange themselves on the beam according to their first names –
without, of course, touching the ground. Any breach of this rule is
sanctioned in a way you and the group see fit. Usually, what you’ll see
first is a number of attempts where delegates seek to move around with
as little physical contact as possible. As this quickly proves highly
ineffective, the delegates realise that touching and stabilising each
other is essential in order to accomplish their task. On the Teambeam
creative ideas and strategies abound, and the group is literally drawn
much closer together. If you wish to up the difficulty level a notch,
have the group perform the activity using only nonverbal communication.
Teambeam consists of five individual parts that can be linked together
for adapting to seminar groups of varying sizes.
